As a church, we acknowledge and participate in the broad mission of every church, namely to be aligned with the heart of God and to spread a passion for Jesus Christ in our congregation, in our city, and in the world - accomplished as we exalt God, equip the church, and evangelize those who need to hear the good news of Jesus.
Our church is unique, however, in how we accomplish the broader mission of the Church.
The mission of Community Church is to Cultivate Christian Community.
"Cultivate" is a rich biblical metaphor. Think of the parables of Jesus, of sowers and seeds, of wheat and tares, of fig trees and vineyards. We are a place where people can grow. We aim to be a greenhouse in which believers in Jesus Christ can grow toward Christ-likeness. We aim to be a place where people are nourished and challenged - where people can be cultivated, where people can grow. This single word can be nuanced, of course, to more accurately and comprehensively articulate our desire for one another at this church.
"Christian" is the foundation of our community. We are a Bible-believing evangelical church, and while we are non-denominational, there are certain inviolable truths of doctrine that are non-negotiables for us. These doctrinal assertions are described in our doctrinal statement, and align our church with other Christian churches around the globe and throughout history.
"Community" is a fashionable Christian buzz-word that is easy to misunderstand. But we have it here, and we long for more of it. We define Community by our distinctives, or core values, as a church. When we have a group of people who are demonstrating grace in their lives, equipping one another and being equipped, participating in God's kindgom work and in the world He's placed us in - a group of people collaborating in ministry, living sent lives and sending others out for His glory, we will have achieved biblical community.
